Proportional Counters

Global Nucleonics Proportional Counters are engineered and manufactured at our factory in Houston, Texas. Proportional Counters are available in standard and specially designed varieties including sealed tubes and windowless flow counters, multi-wire and parallel plate designs.

All Proportional Counters consist of a cathode, anode and volume of gas. When using a Flow counter it is necessary to continuously flush gas through the unit during operation. Detectors with ultra-thin windows are normally operated as Flow Counters.

The main application for our Proportional Counters would be for the detection and spectroscopy of low energy X-Rays and soft gammas. Proportional counters can also be designed for beta and alpha detection.

Scroll down to see summary specifications of a small sample of our standard Proportional Counters.  In the tables below click on the detector's sensitivity to get more detailed specifications and sales drawings of an example of that type of proportional counter.

We offer a comprehensive mix of proportional counters and our engineering/design capabilities are adept at making customised detectors for special applications. Customisation includes but is not limited to: different shapes, position sensitivity, aluminium construction, ruggedisation, and numerous connector types.

BF3 Tubes

BF3 Tubes

A well-known detector for slow neutrons, Global Nucleonics designs and produces boron trifluoride gas filled tubes at our factory in Houston, Texas. These tubes are available in a large array of sizes with fill levels maximized to specific applications.

X-Ray Tubes

Global Nucleonics X-Ray Proportional Counters provide high resolution performance at low X-Ray energies. This unique feature makes our X-Ray proportional counters ideal for X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy, this film thickness gauging and for Mossbauer studies.
